Why do we have earwax?
Earwax is naturally occurring and has an important role in cleaning and lubricating our ears. It traps foreign bodies, preventing them from going further into the ear. Earwax is also slightly acidic and acts as an antibacterial agent.
Problems arise when we produce too much wax, which can lead to a blockage in the ear canal and can cause hearing loss, pain, dizziness or tinnitus.
How much does earwax removal cost?

Can I have treatment if I have a perforation?
If you have a perforated ear drum, then the recommended method of wax removal is Microsuction.
Why do I produce too much earwax?
There are many reasons why wax can build up, often it can be due to narrowed or very hairy ears canals, use of hearing aids, earbuds or excessive cleaning with cotton buds. Certain skin conditions such as Eczema or Psoriasis can also contribute to a build up.
How long does it take?
Appointments take approximately 30 minutes and include a comprehensive ear assessment of both ears, assisted by video otoscopy. Any relevant medical history is discussed, and a treatment plan agreed to remove any earwax present. Full aftercare advice will be given.
Can I fly after my appointment?
Yes, in fact we recommended that you have an ear assessment to check you do not have a blockage prior to travel.
Do you treat children?
We treat children over the age of 16 years.
Do the earwax removal procedures hurt?
None of the methods of wax removal should hurt, however, they can be noisy and the ear canal skin is sensitive.
